Saltwater pools are fantastic in Phoenix — until our famously hard water starts plating calcium onto the cell’s titanium plates, choking chlorine production long before the cell is actually dead. Add summer heat pushing systems to their limits and the picture gets confusing fast: is it the cell, the flow sensor, the control board, or just chemistry? Guessing wrong is expensive, because cells are the priciest consumable on the pad.
We diagnose in order: verify water chemistry and salt level with lab-grade testing, inspect and clean the cell correctly (acid-bathing a healthy cell too aggressively shortens its life), test the flow switch and sensors, and only then talk about replacement. When a new cell truly is the answer, we’ll quote genuine OEM and quality compatible options side by side.
A salt cell is a wear item — typically three to seven years in Arizona, and the difference between three and seven is mostly maintenance. Cells that run with chronically low salt, high stabilizer, or constant scale work harder and die younger.
